The Florida Surfing Championships kick off this week, located on the south side of the Jacksonville Beach Pier. The championships will take place October 4-7 with surfing occurring each day from 8:00am-5:00pm. Other events taking place will include the Saturday Seawalk Celebration and Open Water SUP and Kayak Challenge, and Sunday Surf Sun 5k.

Registration for all events is currently open and participants have the chance to win prizes from House of Marley, Goal Zero, Garmin, Maui Jim, Flomotion and more! A vendor village will be open on the beach from 10:00am-4:00pm each day featuring giveaways and product sampling. The surfing championships include 4 professional and 13 amateur divisions with the ability to win over $30,000 in cash and prizes. The Goal Zero Pro alone features a $10,000 purse and is limited to the first 64 to enter. Live computerized scoring will be provided by Beach Byte and the entire event will be covered by Eastern Surfing Magazine.

To top off a weekend featuring the top surfers from Florida and surrounding areas, an awards party will take place on Sunday, October 7th at Salt Life Food Shack from 6:30-10:00pm. The community is invited to come out to the food shack as not only will the Florida Surfing Champions be titled, but the Salt Life Big Wave Challenge winners will be awarded. The Salt Life Big Wave Challenge is an online surf-photo contest, allowing a surfer and photographer to pair up in hopes of both catching and capturing the biggest ride for the season. Awards will start at 7:00pm and the evening will include a live band, food and drink specials, and samplings from Malibu Rum.

Don’t forget the Wailers will be celebrating their 20th anniversary show at the Seawalk Celebration on Saturday, October 6th with live music starting at 12:00pm! For more information and ways to get involved visit www.ussurfingchampionships.com or email info@floridasurfing.org
